Thor, the autopilot has broken. We were approaching a squall and put the autopilot in standby. It had been making some squeaking sounds so we wanted to give it a rest. Unfortunately the drive unit froze and we had no helm control. Deb and Leigh centered the main and furled the genoa while I went below to disconnect the autopilot from the rudder post. It took some pounding and a few sailor words but we got it disconnected and could steer again. Jane the wind vane has been getting continuous use since the episode and is performing great. We'll look into getting a replacement drive unit shipped to us in Tahiti.
