The Aquarium
11 October 2012
Dan 32 degrees C, 1008mb, mostly sunny 12-15kts apparent WNW

Interlude is at anchor tonight at a place called The Aquarium. With 8-12 kts of true wind, we enjoyed a comfortable 35 mile trip today sailing close hauled most of the way. Interlude averaged about 7kts SOG and covered the distance in about five hours. The iPod stereo attachment works again so we were able to enjoy music from Coldplay and Dire Straits along the way.
We stopped for a few hours in Guembet Kovu (Bay) just east of our present location, but found it full of all-inclusive resorts with jet-skis buzzing around like mosquitos. Definitely not our kind of place, so we moved here about an hour before sunset. The holding is poor -- the bottom is hard rock -- but we have a long line tied ashore and we're expecting another calm night. I dove on the anchor and it'll hold fine as long as the wind doesn't pick up unexpectedly.
Fuat and Melike from PanPan Yachting continue to be very helpful. We (I) broke one of the handles to the Lewmar hatch over the forward head yesterday. I sent them a few photos and they were able to track down a replacement part in Istanbul. That kind of shore support is hard to find and certainly makes it easier for us enjoy our time out here.
We're heading back to the marina in Turgutreis tomorrow morning. Tyler and I lugged our tennis racquets and shoes halfway across the world and haven't used them once yet. We're hoping to remedy that tomorrow afternoon since the marina has two nice courts on the premises. But the toilet in the forward head won't flush again so I'll be spending part of the day disassembling and fixing that. Lucky me.
The photo above was taken last evening at Amazon Creek.
