Progress continues on the dodger project. Finally, got Isabella back in the water and new rigging installed. The dodger has been put on the back burner. I have to have it to go to the Bahamas in the spring, so will be getting back to it soon.

Hard Dodger Build

A Hard Dodger is a must in my book. So I am attempting to design and build one that will be both functional and not take away from the lines of the boat. There are additional pics in the Gallery.

I didn't think i would have to do anything to the engine cover other than remove the teak and paint. However, when I got the teak decking off it was obvious that the plywood core was wet.

I cut open the top deck and dug out the old plywood and cut a new piece of marine ply to fit. I mixed up a lot of thickened epoxy and spread under the plywood then screw it down. I filled and fared and glassed over the top. Then rolled on a coat of white gelcoat as primer/filler.

I am going to redo the gelcoat on the deck with Oyster White and this was a good chance to test my technique for getting a quality finish. I sanded the white gelcoat and then rolled and tipped the Oyster white. I am using Duratech from Fibra Glast Development. You mix it with the gel to make it flow-out and gloss.

It turn out ok but not real smooth, shiny but not smooth enough. I will sand this down and use my gravity spray gun with a 2.4 tip and see how that works for the final finish.
