Today was the work day that we have been waiting for weeks. Sue helped me finish the installation of the NorthStar VHF that I bought from my brother in May. We had mounted the sections of the unit, but never totally finished it. I wanted to wait until Sue was onboard to select the proper placement of the microphone. Ah the last, but most important piece to the puzzle. We sat around the area where I liked it to be and talked for what seemed like hours and never decided until after lunch. I wonder if other couples are like this with their new modifications. I always ask, but don't always get a definative answer. Well it did take some time to install because of the thickness of the fiberglas in the area where we wanted to place the microphone. I needed to go into the back of the glassed-in area and reduce the thickness by about a 1/4" so there would be an adjustment on the nut holding the connection. It was done! Next we would connect the power and ground, but that meant both of us would have to go under the cockpit and feed the wires from port to starboard. Sue entered the quarterberth and I the starboard locker. The scupper vents has such large hose that I barely can ease by, but I had to to make the connection in the same powerboard set up yrs ago. While we were down in this area we pulled wires that were close to the steering quadrant and tie-wrapped them away. I was amazed how many wires were not been used. All in all, we are now hearing conversation from as far away as Annapolis and up in the Bohemia River. Nice to finally have this important piece connected for use.
