Robinson Crusoe

20 August 2009
Janet
We're back to Musket Cove. Since I wrote last we stayed at Robinson Crusoe anchorage off Likuri Island for 5 days. It's a fun resort! It mostly accommodates backpackers, so the girls had fun with the young crowd. All the meals are lovos which are feasts cooked in pit ovens. They served delicious fresh fish, roast beef, chicken with veggies, salads, and bread for the whopping price of $5 per person! Plus, they entertain with the best South Pacific dancing we have seen twirling fire torches and machetes.Photobucket

We hung out in the hammocks; the girls rode the horses and learned how to make coconut jewelry.

Abbey joined a dance team with the islanders and put on a show one night complete with grass skirt. She did great!
From there we went to Denarau, a huge development with 4 or 5 very upscale resorts and golf courses. Kairos was moored in front of the Hard Rock Café; she didn't like all the hubbub there. We got our fill of cruise ships and rubberneckin' landlubbers and moved on back to the sleepy island scene.
We met back up with Barry and Gerrie on New World and are now buddy boating with them through the Yasawas. Their son Sean is visiting from Toronto.
Alicia decided to fly back to the States. She will get her "ducks in a row" and join us again later in the year. It has been great having her here with us. Abbey is very sad to have her go and be stuck with just us again.

I am adding bits and pieces a week later to this update. We sailed to Navandra in the Mamanucas. It is my newest favorite island. It has everything that I like: it's uninhabited, surrounded by a powdery white-sand beach, has a spectacular fringing reef that is the best snorkeling ever with perfect coral and every sea creature imaginable, the anchorage is in a cove that is sheltered and has a panoramic view of nearby islands.
I am having a hard time writing these letters lately. I really haven't been in a flow of wanting to be working on the computer. I have been enjoying living here everyday. It is a bit overwhelming taking in all that Fiji has to offer. I know I have said this a lot, but it just keeps getting better and better. I can't explain how it does. I can't imagine that it could be improved upon.
Clint has been busy with meetings every week. He has preached every Sunday at several churches, he's been the guest speaker for weekly youth rallies. He has addressed the local Christian businessmen and fellowships.
So, I'll end this report and try to keep up once again! Love to all, Janet and the fam.

Vessel Name: svkairos
Vessel Make/Model: 38 Island Packet
Hailing Port: LV NV
Crew: Clint, Janet, Joel, Colin and Abbey
About:
The Glenny family has been cruising since 2000. We started with all five of our children aboard a 50ft. Jeanneau in Tortola and sailed for 8 mos. covering all the islands from Puerto Rico to Grenada. [...]
Extra: We fish everytime we are underway. We always catch plenty and keep alot of fish frozen to have on hand. We like to scuba dive and have a compressor and tanks on board. Kairos is a great boat, very sea worthy and we would recommend Island Packets to anyone.

If it is going to happen, it is going to happen OUT THERE!
