Day 2-Another gorgeous day! It's so wonderful to be heading North where it is warmer! The weather is about the same as yesterday, so we decided to put out the spinny. Works like a charm! I love that sail! It really smooths out the ride and makes the boat feel like it is gliding through butter. Our heading is much better also. So far everything is working perfectly on Kairos. We have things stowed very well which makes it comfortable below. The floor is not littered with all kinds of things that found there way off the shelves. Nice. Abbey is feeling good, no seasickness. In fact, she felt so good that she baked us some yummy chocolate chip cookies! Clint and I are still pretty tired. At the most we get about half an hour sleep here and there. I usually don't have any problem sleeping, but without the boys, I guess I am bearing more of the weight with Clint. It's nearing the full moon, so we kept the spinnaker up all through the night. No problems. We made up for the slower speeds yesterday. We're now averaging 6.8 knots and had a 170 mile day. We haven't started fishing yet. It was so rolly the first day that we didn't want to deal with trying to gaff while getting tossed around and then try to filet on the deck. Today we didn't want to put out lines while we were flying the headsail cause we are going pretty fast and don't want to have to take it down if we catch anything significant. Maybe we will put out a line tomorrow. Love, Janet, Clint, and Abbey
Day 3-We are certainly having some enjoyable days for this passage. It's almost a cloudless sky today. The seas have calmed down to just about a meter with a little chop. We overtook about 3 boats during the night. We can now see one about 4 miles ahead and to our starboard and the others behind us. Everyone reported in on the radio sked and seems to be doing fine. We tried to adjust our heading a little more to put us on a rhumb line for Minerva Reef. Unfortunately, we were a bit too aggressive with that and ended us gibing the spinnaker which hung up on the running lights on the bowsprit and tore three small holes in the foot of the sail. Shortly after, a wave knocked us around and this time spinny decided to play "ring around the rosy" with the forestay. We ended up taking it down, repairing the tears and put it up again. Everything is fine now. All that work called for some Cinco de Mayo celebration. I whipped up some guacamole and chips. It would be nice to have some fish tacos to go with that, but we're still too exhausted to deal with fishing right now. I think I will at least drag a hand line around sunset. If we catch a big fish we will just let it drag behind the boat at 7 knots until it drowns, then hopefully we'll get it in before a shark eats it. More news to come-Love, the Glennys
