Baddeck, Nova Scotia
21 July 2012
This picture was taken from near the lighthouse in the picture above and shows the Baddeck waterfront with KR anchored in the foreground.
It is a good sized harbor but certainly not vast. And yet, in about a week and a half over 70 cruising boats will be arriving here. The Cruising Club of America is doing their annual cruise here this year. Their rendezvous will be the town of Louisburg on the Atlantic coast of Cape Breton from which they will head north around Sydney and into the Lakes through the northern entrance. They have several planned gatherings in various harbors culminating in the final party, hosted by the local yacht club, here in Baddeck on August 2nd. Unfortunately (but perhaps happily) I will have long since moved on by then. It would be great fun to watch such a large collection of cruising sailors in their natural habitat (ie yacht club party). However, I suspect, with all the boats crowding the harbor and the sailors congregating on land, it might seem a bit too much like the mass jellyfish orgy discussed above – or at least a bit too much for your average single-handed sailor.
By then I expect to be out of the Lakes and headed for the west coast of Cape Breton and points north.
Best to all.
