Eastward Bound…Searching for Homebase!

03 December 2012 | Phoenix, Az
Walt/Sunny
Had a reasonably easy drive into the Phoenix area. We’re actually at a very swanky “campground” in Mesa, Just east and south of Phoenix proper. 95% of the units here are permanent units looking more like mini-homes than mobile units. There’s a world class softball field (really!), swimming pool, library, wood shop, ceramics shop, silver shop, tennis courts, shuffleboard, and more. Boy, these retardees (retirees) have it nice here.

Yesterday we visited with old friends David & Karen Landgraf for dinner. Actually David is the son of one of my old duck hunting partners and canoe buddy who was old enough to tag along with us on many of our hunts. David is now a detective in Gilbert (Phoenix suburb). Nice meeting and dinner.

The next night we had dinner at the home of Frank & Carolyn Whitman (Nancie’s cousin). Frank is an ex Marine and LA policeman. What a nice couple they are! Several kids & grandkids were in attendance and we had a wonderful evening. Frank is a guy’s guy and quite a model person. I was impressed at the least.

We left Phoenix and headed for Tuscon for lunch with an old friend/workmate from GE, Steve Holt. Nice lunch and good conversation. Tuscon feels good. That evening we stayed at a campground in Benson, Az. A very nice spot but plain Jane campground.

We left Benson and headed towards Deming, New Mexico. Just outside Benson we entered an area of very unusual rock formations. See photo.
