Just a short hop
30 October 2014 | Kilmarnock Va
Today's trip was one of the shortest legs we have done. We were headed to Indian Creek off Fleets Bay. I wanted to see the town of Kilmarnock Va after reading about it in the cruisers guide and the captain politely obliged me. We upped anchor at 08:00 and headed back out to the bay predicted wind was once again 10 to 15 N/NE.... and once again wrong we again had 15 to 20 and seas of 3-4 again a washing machine kind of ride with spray over the bow. Are you seeing a pattern yet? And it has been cold! The ride was a short one and we made good boat speed. We had the anchor down by 13:16 in Pittman Cove on the Indian River. The CSO was demanding shore leave so we got the dingy inflated and set up. The dingy is lashed to the bow when we sail and we have to deflate it. The motor has a mount in the aft of the boat. The process of getting it up and running takes about 40 minutes in total. Being a boat dog is a little rough when you are on the hook. Fortunately in this creek there was a YMCA camp that was closed for the season. We accessed their dock and Ms. India enjoyed a good walk with all the amenities a pup could want. She is loving all those new smells. There is also a Marina on this creek who will let you use their facilities for a small fee. We paid the fee and borrowed the Marinas bikes for a ride into town. The ride was only about two miles and the bikes were a bit wobbly but we made it in. NIce to get a bit of exercise. Kilmarnock is a quiet small town with a Main street where we stopped at the local coffee shop and walked. I was hoping for a grocery as we are pretty much out of fresh veggies. We wanted to have the bikes back before the Marina office closed at 5:00 so we could get a bag of ice before returning to the boat. Once back on board we had dinner, read a bit and off to bed. The picture is the sunset at Port Lookout Marina for some reason I didn't take any photos in Indian Creek.
