Laundry Day in Boot Key

03 April 2015 | Boot Key Harbor
Sally - sunny side up
Poor India had an upset tummy this morning. Not sure what her exact issue was but she had us up early looking after her. It was just getting light and the mountainous bag of laundry was staring at me ominously. It rather resembles the sorting hat in Harry Potter. It speaks to me I think I would have been in Ravenclaw. I have found that doing laundry at the Marina takes a bit of dance training to manage the moves it takes to get is gathered, into the dinghy, onto the dock and into the laundry room. You get to repeat that in reverse once it is washed and dried. It can be a three hour task easily. Getting there first in the day is a clear advantage because of the limited amount of machines and the tendency for them to get back logged. Since we were up, armed with laundry essentials, India, and the gigundo bag of laundry we headed in to shore. At 6:45 there was already someone doing laundry! Its a happening place at all times of the day and well into the night. I loaded up the machines while Scott and India (whose tummy seemed much better) headed out to scout up some breakfast and darn he had the soap in the back of the car. I had bought more yesterday because I knew I was getting low and sure enough I ran out. What did we do before phones?? I gave him a quick call, he reversed direction and brought me the detergent. Machines loaded I settled into read until he returned. When he returned we set up camp at one of the plugs in the community room. Plugs in the community room are another hot commodity and if you are not there early in the day you are pretty much SOL on that front. Since the majority of us are on balls and not many of us have the capacity or desire to run our generators all day its a free for all to get a space to charge up those phones, tablets and laptops. In addition the community room is where the internet access is the strongest. Unfortunately it is not a protected network so you don't want to use it for anything personal like banking. It does however provide access to that streaming video that you don't want to eat up your data plan using. I have a couple of shows I follow the latest being Mr. Selfridge on PBS Masterpiece. If you haven't watched it do, it is based on the life of Harry Selfridge, a department store mogul , who opened a store in London in the early 1900's. If you like period historical fiction it might be your cup of tea. While my clothes dried I watched episode 1 of Season 3, I find the period clothes, cars and social mores of the time fascinating. It's different from Downton Abbey ( which I also adore) in that the characters are working class people and while Selfridge is very wealthy he is not aristocracy and they let him know it. How historically accurate it is on his life I am not sure but the time setting and events happening in the world are quite like Downton.
By the time the laundry was done, folded and ready to go the winds had picked up considerably which does not bode well for a dry return to LR. We did manage to get it into the dinghy and back aboard without soaking it but I would not say the same for us it was a another WDB (wet dinghy butt) kind of ride. We got the laundry on board and properly stowed. Since we had headed out so early I had not made the bed before we left..... mistake. I climbed into the berth to take on that task and as I tossed t he quilt onto the cabin sole Scott discovered India had gotten ill on the quilt. More laundry... just like a land base it's never ending in that department. Since I have sworn off doing laundry on weekends I cleaned it up best I could and shoved it in the laundry bag for a wash on Monday. As it was pretty rough ride out we opted to stay on board until India's evening walk, I caught up with blogs and bills, surfed a bit and Scott read. After our evening shore break it was time for dinner and sundowners while listening to the band at Dockside. And that folks is an average day on LR
The picture is of India looking all innocent :-)
