Rocking around the mooring ball
11 December 2016 | Ft Lauderdale FL
Sally it be raining hard here mon
Rocking around the mooring ball at the Christmas Parade spot.
Sailboats strung where you can see every bridge opening pop.
Rocking around the mooring ball it's a happy holiday
Sailboats float where you can see every boat would like to stay
You will get a sentimental feeling when you see.
Christmas lights oh so jolly deck the boats with boughs of holly.
My version of Rockin around the Christmas tree. The parade last night was a bit smaller than we had anticipated but it was a nice diversion. The winds have continued to howl and the rain has been rather relentless coming in fits and starts. We braved the elements and got the laundry done this morning arriving back at the boat just in time for the heavens to open. We got lucky, getting everything down below before another wave of monsoon hit. We got things settled and a peak of sunshine enticed us to hop in the dingy, take her to shore and walk down to the beach. As we walked by one of the many establishments the Captain was enticed by the big screens filled with Sunday afternoon warriors chasing pig skins. We walked down the strip, stopped at the CVS where we bought absolutely nothing and then turned around to walk back. The ocean was a churning and burning with big surf and looked decidedly uncomfortable. Not a place to be in a small vessel of any type. As we walked by the bar with numerous televisions tuned in to the NFL I said lets go watch. We couldn't find a sea at the bar as it was packed to the rafters with fans of the game. We had stopped early in our stay at a place a block down and a block back from the beach just to looky loo so I suggested we might check it out to see if the games were on there. Sure enough they were and we could find a spot to sit, have a brew and watch. We decided we would have a linner and ordered a basket of wings and even got to watch our beloved BIlls lose yet another game. Bummer. While we were sitting there another couple asked if they could share our table. We struck up a conversation with Logan, Wendy and their friend Bob while watching the games. It was fun, the bar was packed and getting more so as the day went on. The rain poured buckets while we were there! At the end of the game we bid our farewells and headed back stopping to procure some ice on the way. When we left the ice store the sky opened, we waited until it subsided a bit and made a mad dash for the marina. The dingy was full of water which Scott pumped out before we hopped in and made our way back to Light Reach. He headed back in with India for her evening walk getting soaked in the process. Now we sit listening to the winds howl, looks like we might be here another day letting the seas abate before heading to Miami. There are many many worse places to stay and our mooring balls are the envy of the anchored cruisers.
We saw this family on the beach and just had to have their picture. Quiet folks didn't have much to say but they did seem to be enjoying the beach. The picture doesn't do it justice but you can see some of the surf in the background.
