Good bye to 2017

The last day of the year brings pause for quiet reflection. It’s been a year of definite change. We started the year in Marathon tied to ball P2 wondering what the ramifications of November’s election would bring. We end the year still wondering at the shenanigans in DC. Enough on politics. We enjoyed the activities in Marathon, dominoes, bocce, pot lucks and sundowners. February found us dealing with a very sick puppy and brought us to tears as we made the decision to have our dear India euthanized. We miss her dearly. As the days grew longer our feet got itchy and we made plans to head to the Bahamas. Packing the boat with massive amount of provisions took a good bit of time and planning. Replacing the depth sounder which decided to fail just before departure was another adventure. Finally on the last day of March we pulled up stakes and started our trip buddying with Dancin Down Wind. Our first overnight sail since 2014 went well and we checked into the Bahamas during the first days of April. April and May we wandered through the Exuma chain of the Bahama Islands falling in love with Staniel Cay and the Land and Sea Park. Battery issues cut short our time and we headed back to the states. We parked the boat in Lantana and proceeded with the necessary repairs to the battery bank and a number of other chores finally hauling out in Stuart for hurricane season. And what a season it was! We were fortunate to have not incurred any serious damage from H.I.M. (Harvey Irma Maria) . Our hearts went out to those who had. We made our summer trek North excited to visit friends and loved ones along the way. A side trip to the Pacific Seacraft factory was enlightening and expensive. Boat units went flying fast and furious this year! PS made necessary repairs to the cockpit hatch and Mack Sails our sails. Irma extended our stay with family for a bit more than a week but still our time with them went way too fast. Returning back to Florida in the fall meant necessary Dr. visits something we both dread. Irma also altered our winter plans and after splashing in November we made the huge 6nm trip to Sunset Bay where we now float on a mooring. We have found Stuart to be delightful and have met with several other former Marathon cruisers who are wintering here with us. The marina is lovely and we on Light Reach are very happy to close out 2017 healthy, happy and content. The picture is of Light Reach and Dancin Down Wind on their respective moorings.
