Sally feels like the North Pole
It was 27 degrees here when we awoke this morning. That is dang cold for this part of the country. The front that is raising Cain in the eastern part of the country came through with a vengeance. We had gone out yesterday morning to get a second bottle of propane, batteries and some oven provisions in anticipation of the front. We also stopped and talked with the folks at Trinity Marine about replacing Light Reach’s battery charger. The electronic guru wasn’t available to talk with so we left our boat card with them for him to contact us. We did get a price…. Sigh as in all things marine related not inexpensive.
We had gone out in conditions that were not too bad winds about 10 to 15 knots. The return trip was quite a bit more boisterous with wind above 20 and climbing. There were white caps in our protected little harbor. Night Light (my name for our dingy) served us well and although we did get wet it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been in our previous dingy.
Today we have our propane heater going full blast and are dressed in our warmest clothes just trying to stay warm. The winds have held pretty steady in the excess of 20 knot range with gust up close to 30. It was a very bouncy and not so comfortable night on board as we shucked and gibed around the mooring ball and the temps fell lower and lower. It isn’t supposed to let up much before Saturday so we are boat bound until then. Fortunately we have lots of propane and the sun is out charging the batteries via the Solar panels. The wind generator has been doing its fair share too. We’ll spend the day reading, writing and cooking warm goodies. Time for some hot chocolate. Stay warm all.
Picture is of our furnace.
