Valentines in Paradise

Happy Valentines Day.
We spent 4 days moored in Great Bay on Jost. The weather has been consistently windy and the seas are bumpy with a good North Swell to boot. We’ve gone to White Bay via taxi and spent some quality time at the beach and at the new (since we’d been) restaurant Hendo’s Hideaway. We met Hendo in the taxi on the way over one of the days. Wonderful guy with a lot on the ball, he was coming back from St Thomas. Everyone we have talked with have been friendly and welcoming. Our favorite bartender Glenn John has kept our thirst quenched and shared more than a few laughs with us. We managed to eat a few lunches there too. White Bay has been full of boats and tourists which is exactly what the island’s economy needs.
We watched a group of folks relaunch a ferry that had been thrown ashore during the storms. That was a good couple of hours of entertainment while they used a backhoe, some good size logs (telephone poles?) and another ferry to dig, push, pull and refloat the boat. We all cheered when they successfully got her back in the water.
We spent some time reading, talking and just general hanging out and watching harbor happenings. Nick and Emily out UK acquaintances we met the first night here pulled in today and we had a lovely visit with them. They were having a marvelous time.
The picture was taken overlooking White Bay, home of Hendo’s and the Soggy Dollar. You again can see where the hills have been deforested but the beauty is still undeniable.
