Heading North by wheels

After putting Light Reach to bed we spent the next two weeks finding a place to stash all the stuff we took off her. The condo really was looking like a storage unit! We managed to stuff everything somewhere but it wasn’t pretty. After packing the car with all the gear we would need for the summer, we pulled out to head North on July 6 in the wee hours of the morning.
First stop Hilton Head Island to visit Roger and Sue in their new (to them) home. After 14 years of cruising they are swallowing the hook and becoming C.L.O.D.s (Cruisers Living On Dirt). They haven’t sold Dancing Down Wind … yet. Hilton Head Island is such a lovely place I can certainly see the charm of wanting to put roots down there. It has miles and miles of bike trails, beautiful Atlantic beaches, golf courses and outdoor activities galore. Along with loads of cultural activities and plenty of events it’s easy to see why they selected the area.
We had a terrific visit. Their home is just gorgeous nestled among trees in a wonderful location. Sue has finally been able to get all their treasures from their time in China out of storage boxes. Roger is busy filling the garage up with toys and a vehicle with wheels instead of sails. And Harry and Draco are finding out what it means to be land cats. The neighborhood where they are located has three golf courses, a community center with a beautiful pool, complete with lazy river and lots of courts (tennis, pickle ball, bocce you name it). Our two days with them flew by and all too soon we were saying good bye.
