Dancing around Florence
22 September 2018 | Falls Lake NC
We had made plans to see Bonnie and Pete on our way south. We met up with them again on Q at the marina where we had kept Light Reach before we headed south with her. We always have so much fun seeing them it was a joyous visit which was over way too soon. The marina will always hold a very special place in my heart.
While we were in Maryland, Hurricane Florence decided to slam her way into the Carolina’s. It was heartbreaking to see the damage caused by the storm. We had made reservations at Falls Lake Recreation Area, near Raleigh Durham for 5 days starting on the 22nd. Florence almost changed those plans but the park reopened on the day before our planned departure from Bonnie and Pete’s. I had selected this park from the many that dot North Carolina strictly by whim. What a lovely area it turned out to be. Parts of the park were closed off because of flooding from the hurricane but the campground was open and surprisingly busy. The site, also picked on a whim was perfect. Wooded with a blanket of pine needles covering the area where we set up the tent. We spent 5 nights here and truly enjoyed the visit.
The picture shows some of the flooding in the park, note the pavilion and street lamp in the water.
