First day of the year

Happy New Year! Here’s hoping 2020 is kind to you and yours. Why do I feel I should break out in I can see Clearly Now??? Ha bad pun, I’m sure we’ll hear more of them before this year ends.
We woke early after a quiet evening in. Several of the boaters had a camp fire last night to which we were invited but we haven’t stayed up until mid-night in eons so we declined. After all things weren’t getting started until 9:00 PM which is way late for us. LOL
Since it was dead calm Scott asked if I would mind if we moved before having coffee. Sure captain the winds are pretty quiet at first light but as soon as the sun gets up in the sky they pick up again. He quickly unhooked us from shore power and water and got the engine running. The guy on the boat next to us offered to help us which was greatly appreciated. We were moving from one side of the dock to the other. We got the lines moved from port to starboard and carefully backed out of the slip. Light Reach prop walks to port, our stern swung slowly with the lock behind us. We made a slow circle and lined up with the dock and ever so slowly slid into the dock which was now to starboard. We got a line on to stop our motion and began the business of securing the boat, insuring she couldn’t move forward. I was aft adjusting the stern line when I heard a rumble rumble. I looked up to see a gigantic barge approaching preparing to enter the lock. Holy cow 5 minutes later and we would have been toast! A vessel that size can’t stop for a sailboat in the channel and definitely has the right of way!
We’re now happily settled into our new slip and spending a quiet day. I may finally get the blog caught up.
The picture is the view off our port side of east bound boats entering the lock.
