Light airs on the midwatch, and although by 0400 it looked like we could lay our course, we were headed again, then becalmed in the morning. We all went for a swim in the warm water.

At 1230, the bulk carrier Sheila McDermit, bound for Texas from Africa, hailed us on the radio. The officer on watch just wanted to say hello; he was from Connecticut and had just bought his own sailbot, and O'Day 27, which he looked forward to sailing soon. They had diverted south to avoid the storm brewing to our north.

Beryl showed us the "blue tiger fish" that lives under our bow. We identified it as a pilot fish, which have been known to follow ships for 90 days. We also watched a Dorado nab a flying fish off our stern. The effect in these light winds is of a large fish pond, with dragonfly-like flying fish buzzing around and bass-like Dorado's breaking the water with their fins and snapping at the buzzing flying fish.

We checked in with Herb Hilgenburg for weather for the first time on the passage -- mized feelings, since it is a time commitment to check in every day, and propogation can be so very poor, but we would benefit from Herb's advice on finding good weather to get into Bermuda. Herb has trouble hearing us, and thinks we are in St Marten, not on passage east of Bermuda.
