Where is SV Merakai

Underway by 6:30. Head sail up most of the time, but making less than 5 kts with the current against us. Rick saw a manta ray at the surface, then we both saw at least 3 small whales! They had their tails in the air, and then would make great splashes slapping their tails on the water. We negotiated our way to the anchorage recommended by our cruising guide, threading our way to a passage between the fringing reef at Gili Bodo and a reef more offshore. The passage was not shown on Navionics.

The water was very clear off the back of the boat. Snorkeled to check for bommies.

31 Oct: Overnight, our anchorage was fine, even with swinging 360 degrees, but by 7:00 AM the tide was still falling and the reef behind us was exposed. After an early morning snorkel, we decided the reef was too close and reanchored a couple of hundred metres north in 20m. Did a lovely drift snorkel tethered to our dinghy over the fringing reef.




Overall, a healthy diverse vibrant coral reef community (saw ~10 WSs, 3 cases of fishing line wrapped around corals; no paling).


Went to the beach to try and fill our Aussie gas bottle from an Indonesian one - no go, need further adaptors :)


Clouds building and a bit of rain on the mainland made for a dramatic sunset.
