Something squishy

It has been another busy 24 hours of sailing on Miles. We sailed approximately 170 miles in the last 24 hours - the most this boat, and the majority of her crew, have ever done in a 24 hour period. We had a lot of fast sailing today under spinakker ratcheting up new speed records with the current being 16.8 knots (Gord at the helm)! Krakken has been in our sights since dawn and we got within a couple of miles between us before our courses diverged again. About the time of our divergence, the unfortunate irony is we felt a squishy 'whump' on the hull and the boat slowed down (luckily not during one of our high speed periods). Upon closer inspection at the transom we found part of a tentacle from some sort of (presumably large, given the reaction of the boat) squid! We are pretty sure the good folks on Krakken didn't send the squid after us, but we'll have to ask them to confirm when we get to Maui!
