Hyannisport
03 October 2009 | Hyannisport, MA
We maneuvered into Hyannisport and called around to see about our
options. Most of the boats were gone and there was ample space in
the harbour to anchor. However, Hyannisport Yacht Club agreed to let
us tie onto one of their members moorings for a fairly low fee. This
kept us closer to shore and gave us a dock to leave our dinghy at, as
well as use of their launch service. We were also invited to the
club's restaurant, which held the prospect of a good dinner. Mark
did have reservations about staying at Ted Kennedy's yacht club,
however the fact that it was his former yacht club made a big
difference.
The next morning we met up with Neil and his family as well as his
neice. They came out to the boat using the club's launch and we took
them on a short sailing cruise in which Neil demonstrated his
knowledge of sailing to his sons. Neil took us by a dive shop to
pick up some dive gear and fill our tanks and then we spent a fun
afternoon and evening with Neil and his sister's families. The next
day we lounged around and went back to the boat. We were met shortly
after by Neil's mom and step-dad who were looking to purchase a
trawler and take to the water, so we had a lot to talk about. They
were extremely generous and left one of their cars with us for a
couple of days, which Dana put to good use for more shopping.
Mark had finally assembled all the gear needed to swap the propeller
on Northfork. He spent a couple of hours getting everything
together, reviewing the procedures with Dana, and putting his dive
gear on. The thing is that even with the new hood he had just
bought, the water by this point has gotten too cold. Mark hopped out
of the water just about as quickly as he got in.
