Bermuda High

10 May 2010
Author: Hamish
Having spent a couple of days fixing minor items on the boat and provisioning we left the British Virgin Islands on 1st May on time at 0800 and set course direct for the Azores. The wind for the first 24hrs was reasonable but as par usual not from the right direction. After a couple of days of trying in vain to stay on our course we decided to alter course to Bermuda (approx due north) to get up to the trade winds. The wind dropped and we motored. For 5 days straight! The sea never went totally glassy but was very calm.
There were originally going to be 4 of us on Dances with Waves but a 5th has joined also. She is no Pegasus but we seem to be managing and slowly getting the little problems sorted. Even though it was quite calm and on the first day, I was sea sick for the first time! Must have been nerves or a dodgy lunch! All seems better now, touch wood. We arrived in Bermuda on the Saturday afternoon and are departing this morning for the Azores. Hopefully the wind will be in the right place this time.
