Our offer has now been accepted and following a satisfactory survey, we will officially become the new owners of Pegasus! We think we have done well. She is a 2002 Beneteau 50. We will be the third owner and as far as we can tell, the previous owners have really looked after her. During the sale process we have spent many hours with the vendor, Anthony. Although being a Brit, he has lived in Sydney for many years and has a few Sydney-Hobart's under his belt, so guess he knows a thing or two about yachts. He purchased Pegasus in August 08 specifically for doing an Atlantic circuit. Having bought the boat in Scotland he made a number of modifications including adding a watermaker, wind/water generator, new liferaft, satphone and other safety modifications before doing the ARC in November 2008. He then sailed the Caribbean for a few months before returning to the UK via Bermuda and the Azores and putting her up for sale in September 2009.

The original owners, Alan and David, were two Scottish guys who bought her new in April 2002. From what I can gather, she had a reasonably easy life in Scotland with some light club racing and a couple of Scottish Three Peaks races. In 2006 Alan also became the first person to single-handedly circumnavigate Scotland by boat and bike to raise money for charity. You can see his adventure here www.soloroundscotland.com

The survey is booked for next week, so fingers crossed.

He has sailed since a very young age on his father’s yacht on Lake Te Anau, New Zealand and a lot of dingy sailing at school in Australia. He has also owned a couple [...]
