-this is Scott's picture (pretty nice! huh!?) and we know this because as a rule I am sleeping during most sunrises
The last few days of our last week in Barra was the usual 'Chinese Fire Drill' to leave. As much as we try to avoid it, that's the way it goes it seems. Other cruisers say it is normal so I just have to suck it up. But we still managed to fit in some fun. Town was packed with more people for the 2 week long Easter/Spring Break holiday called Semana Santa - Saints Week though locals call it Semana Diablo - Devils Week. Barra's holiday is lower key than San Carlos but longer it seems. I realized that it is just like when we used to head for the Jersey Shore for a week long holiday or Spring Break say in Florida (I assume as I had never gone to a proper Spring Break and Scott went skiing). Everyone one here with a table seems to sell yummy tacos, the crowd is mostly in their 20's walking around in bikini's or bare chests (just the guys) - some carrying surf boards, there's music every where and a gazillion colorful beaded bracelets and trinkets to buy.
Our last night we headed in to town for 1 last Barra sunset drink & some tacos with Ray and wound up meeting up with some other/new cruisers (more our age too) at a Reggae/Rap-Mexican band party. We had a lot of fun finally getting out to dance and chatting with new cruisers. The band was great! The 'party' was perfect for us: not eardrum-breaking loud, not a huge, huge crowd and everyone were just having a good-old time. The crowd's attire was everything from short, short skirts and high heels to Reggae-rasta dreads and baggy clothes to us cruisers in our shorts and Hawaiian shirts. There was no cover charge, the bar tenders came out with bottles of some kind of red colored alcohol to give people shots at one point and other people were going around taking pictures of everyone. It felt like a big party with a lot of friends! We didn't get back to the boat until 1:30 a.m. - straight to sleep so we could leave by noon the next day.
