Marina Ixtapa to Z-town, Mexico

03 April 2008 | Zihuatenajo, Mexico
by Cheryl
Our exit out of our sip was just as graceful as our entrance;this time Scott decided that the corner of the dock was too square so we rounded it off a bit - wonder if a charge will show up on our credit card. We need more practice! Then there were big swells coming into the harbor entrance that we had to motor through! Scott saw the depth sounder hit 6 feet - we draw 5ft - you do the math!

We motored the short distnce to Zihuatenajo and anchored in the small anchorage - it was smaller that I thought. Definetly not where Andy Dufrane winds up in the movie the Shawshank Redemeption (the credits say it was filmed in BVI).

The anchorage was crowded and there was a little swell- the fishing boats had the most protected spot for sure. Parasailors were cruising through the anchored sailboats too! A little unnervering to see but glad no one got hung up on a mast - can you say Gringo On A Stick! We later heard stories that didn't turn out so well.

We only had 24 hours here so after a nap we kayaked into shore - only got a little wet - and wandered thru town to find veggies. I was happy to report that there is basil everywhere; pretty dark green leafy bouqets with pretty purple flowers - we made pesto!

We found $.50 yummy tacos, veggies at the Mercado (I did much better with my Spanish this time), ice & the Auntie M (ATM machine).

Our kayak back out thru the small surf turned out to be pretty graceful - but I still got a little wet!?

No sign of sv Amalfi - that was dissapointing.
