Once more following the trail left by Myron and Dena.
We actually had a long travel day (9 hours), but we only covered about 50 nm for an average speed of less than 6 knots. The reason for the slow speed was not the tidal current, which was never very strong, but fog.
We got underway shortly after a spectacular sunrise, and headed away from New Smyrna Beach. We had not gone 5 nm when we came to a complete stop in pea soup fog (see pic above). We waited for the sun to burn off the fog, but it kept getting thicker. It took nearly two hours to burn off such that we could see the next set of channel marks. After that the trip was uneventful and we had the hook down about 16:30.
One of the House battery banks appears to be going south. I replaced the other bank just before departure. Looks like I'll have to replace the other one before we leave Florida. I'll look to pick up 2 6 VDC batteries in Vero or Ft. Pierce.
Other than that all is well.
