30 July 2010 | Candeleros Bay
Monica
Oh yeah it is Friday! Well one day does pretty much blend into another but we do enjoy days with not a lot on the "to do" list. We haven't had many lately but we hope tomorrow may well be one. Thursday after my last blog post we took off out of the safe protection of Puerto Escondido out to an anchorage call Candeleros Bay. It is only 7 miles away but far enough that we can feel like we're out there again and find some quiet private time. We motored all the way out here as we needed to charge up the batteries but the wind was right on the nose anyway. The weather had it predicting 14-18 kts from the ESE and that was exactly what we had.
This anchorage is a beautiful little bay well protected from waves from the ESE winds. There is a small little, probably 10 unit resort up on the hill with some little cabanas on the beach and kayaks shacks holding toys for the guests. There is also a huge resort, hotel or condo development going in right in front of us on the beach. It is a concrete shell but there are two cranes and 4 bus loads of workers everyday there working on the building and building a road down to it carving it out of the brown mountainous hillside. The beach is a nice white sand with very little shells for collecting. The only real activity here except for the workers are the local pangas that come in throughout the day which stop and send divers over the side diving and gathering up clams which are served in all the restaurants around here. As non-nationals we are not allowed to collect shellfish so we haven't tried our hand at this......yet.
Today we got the main sail and sail bag put back up on the boom, a little challenging in the breezy conditions but we managed. With this all things, I'm pretty sure, are put back on and are operational from the haul out. Another little project today was the forward head which started leaking yesterday. I just don't understand how it can be fine one day then leaking the next with no apparent cause. Scott says it's a boat, it doesn't need a cause just to hear that the project list is getting short. So, after having it together and apart a half a dozen times the tube of silicone came out to assist. Tomorrow we will see if it was successful. With that, my only other chore on the list, shhhh, don't let the boat hear it, but is to organize the vee-berth.
