Where did the wind go?

We left Neah Bay at 8am on August 2nd as planned and got 4 great hours of sailing in while we headed out west to turn South. With the winds light and out of the South we got 4 hours in before we had to turn South or head to Hawaii. Once we turned we had to turn on the diesel and motorsail. And motorsail we have until now.
We did see a pod of whales and dolphins a couple different times the first day. We never were able to identify them but think perhaps they were blue whales. Definitely not grays. The sea was a bit swelling coming out of the Straits but not bad. Scott got a little sick heading into Neah Bay with the fog being so thick and with it being hard to tell up from down. He put on his patch and all has been well since.
There hasn't been much excitement but that is good in and of itself. We have all settled into the groove. Dave is the best crew member one could want. He is so neat, tidy, and is a good cook and navigator. We are forever grateful and blessed that he has joined us on this leg of the adventure.
The routine has been, Scott takes the 8-12 watches, Dave takes the 12-4 and I have the 4-8 watches. We all manage to eat and sleep, taking naps between shifts and all have been able to get 6 hours a day. I have brought bad hair days to new levels however!
The weather has been overcast and in the low 60's during the day and mid 50's during the evenings. Right now in Newport it looks as if it is trying to burn off and so I think I'm going to try and take a walk over to the aquarium.
