Wow! Where does a week go, when you're having fun?
Leaving town was the hardest part of our first week of traveling! John literally worked up to one hour before we left. I thought I was going to drag him out, but he did come willingly. Fair wells at the dock with my family didn't prove to be any easier, but we made it through with minimal tears and headed out, both of us a bit emotional.
As it is considered bad luck to began a journey on a Friday, we stayed in Taku Harbor Friday night. That's not really leaving town! We had made plans to meet with our friends and sailing buddies, Jimmy & Annette there for a final send off and knew friends Tom & Tish were going to join us as well. What we didn't expect was to see Buddy & Kathleen, who were still on there way back to Juneau from there winter south. Needles to say, a good time was had and we were sent on our way Saturday morning. Bad luck averted.
We had one more fair well we needed to take care of. When we cleaned out our storage unit, we still had our little Westy dog "Salty's" ashes. He passed eight years ago, mind you! It was time. So we spread some of his ashes on our way out of Taku Harbor and then in the West Brother Anchorage the next day. Two of his favorite places.
So, what else have we done all week? We made a stop in Kake for a visit with friends Robbie & Elaine Garrett, stayed a night in Gut Bay on Baranof Island, finally made it out to Coronation Island (always wanted to), toured El Capitan cave (our third time), a night in Kaguk Cove, Prince of Whales Island, and now here we are in Craig!
No major issues with boat or crew (that's John & I). So, yah, that's our week.
From here we head the rest of the way south on POW, then cross Dixon Entrance to Prince Rupert to clear into Canada.
