Short Hop

24 August 2011 | Drakes Bay, CA
Nicki / Fog
We made the short 18nm hop from Bodega Bay to Drakes Bay. Point Rayes, the headland that creates the protected bay, is very impressive with it's shear rock faces and raged shoreline. However once around the point, the rolling hills and long shoreline of Drakes Bay is welcoming.

We took the dingy into the beach at the historic Coast Guard Lifeboat Station and walked up the road to the hill top lookout. North along the bay is a ranch who's cows graze along the hills. Fog clung to the hill tops and shrouded the cows along the hills.

Jackrabbits, deer, and a skunk family were our wildlife sightings. Although I've smelled skunk before in Washington as a kid, this was my first wild skunk sighting. That may not be exciting to many, but it was to me! I know, silly.

Glad we made this stop. The view of shore from the bay was quite beautiful. It made me think of Australia, just from movie images I guess. John said it made him think of Scotland. Which ever it resembled, we both agreed it was a good take.
