Hummingbird Inn Pub
20 May 2007 | Galiano Island, BC

Last night we went ashore to take the Hummingbird Inn Pub bus. That was different. The bus is an old red school bus, and pub was reminiscent of a hippy mountain retreat except that it was filled with the Maple Bay Yacht Club. They had live entertainment: a singer with a guitar and enough electronics to turn him into a one-man cover band. Really. There were saxophones and piano, as well as percussion and voices. Like karaoke for the guitar. He started with an island theme - tropical island - and when he did "Put the Lime in the Coconut," of course I thought of Andrew and Caroline. Andrew does a great job with that song, unplugged. We had a lot of fun, and I picked up a couple of books from their book exchange. When it was time to leave, the bus wouldn't start. We were the only passengers, so the driver kindly gave us a ride in her own van. That worked out fine for us, but when we got to our intersection, there was a crowd of 20 or so waiting for the bus. We have no idea how she handled that.
A couple from another Sceptre (Airmanship) just knocked on our hull. They said there's a fun race in Blaine, WA, on June 9th and the rendezvous, of course, in September. I think we'd really rather see Princess Louisa Inlet than return to the States for a race, so we'll miss both. They also said the Fraser is running strong and to hug the shore and go on the flood. The flood isn't going to be timed right for us, so it will be a long, slow trek. Airmanship is also going to be on the west coast of Vancouver Island this summer, so we'll watch and listen for them.
