Moving on north
01 July 2007
On my way back to the boat after shore showers yesterday, the people (Fritz Warren and Joanne Livingston) from m/v Truly Fair (Sausalito) were out on the rear deck, so I took the opportunity to ask if they were really from Sausalito. They are. What's more, they're former commodores in SSCA. They had seen our burgee and stopped by while we were away from the boat. It was really interesting talking with them.
The museum was great, especially for such a small town. The First Nations exhibits were very well done. It was neat to see the film of them blowing up Ripple Rock. What a huge explosion that was.
Also on the way back from the museum, we stopped at Hurricane Jack's to find out about fishing. Jack was very nice and helpful. He gave us all kinds of pointers — where to fish tomorrow but also after Seymour Narrows where to get Dungeness crab and how to find out where the orcas are. It turns out that we missed a pod Friday afternoon by only an hour or so. They were cruising down the west side of the passage while we were still out by the shoal.
This morning I'll be doing the laundry, and John is going to visit the grocery and liquor stores. Then we're heading across the passage to fish while we wait for the tide to change. Tonight we'll be back at Otter Cove. Then we're going to use the tips that Hurricane Jack gave us and go hang out in Thurston Bay for a few days looking for bears, orcas, and Dungeness crab.
