John and Derek were successful in taking the boom apart to remove the broken piece. We couldn't have done it without Derek's help. He drove us around to find tools and helped John with the physical labor. Now he's on his way home, but we'll see him again in October. Thanks, Derek!

John has also connected with a welder who we think can build the replacement pieces we need. The repairs are falling into line. The weather, however, isn't. Right now a big blow from the south is forecast to begin Thursday and continue at least through Sunday (the forecast doesn't extend beyond then). It's one thing to be out in the ocean when the weather turns on you; it's another to set out when the weather is already against you. The first is bound to happen eventually, but we don't do the second.

Daddy and Doris stopped by this afternoon for a little visit. They're making a clockwise circumnavigation of the Olympic Peninsula, and we were on their way. It was nice to be able to catch up with them. They hadn't seen the boat since Audrey made the curtains, and Doris especially was complimentary.
