Leaving Monterey

22 September 2007
The southerly winds held on longer than first predicted, but it looks like we'll be able to leave Monterey tomorrow (Sunday) morning. Rather than sailing all night, we're going to try to find an anchorage south of Big Sur. There are a couple noted in the cruising guide we have. Or if we make good time, we could get as far as San Simeon tomorrow. I've adjusted the cruising plan to give us a two-day passage.

I've enjoyed our time in Monterey. The weather has been good except for today. Yesterday we got the dinghy motor fixed (we think). While that was being done, we drove on up to Moss Landing and found Resolution. We were glad to see that her new owner is taking pretty good care of her. She looks pretty small, though, now that we're used to Solstice. We also drove down to Carmel and did the 17 Mile Drive. It's fun to see how the rich people live. We even stopped and had a drink at the bar at the Lodge, a first for us.
