Mazatlan
28 January 2011
cloudy and 75

We continue to be anchored at Stone island which is one of three choices in Mazatlan. The most popular choice appears to be one of the four Marinas located north of the old city in the "gold zone" The next most likely is the old Harbor in the older section of town operated by Club Nautico. This is a limited service anchorage where you pay 50 pesos a day to use the dinghy dock and use of showers etc. The last choice Stone island, is usually just a overnight stop before heading South. Kokomo, Roksan and Sound Effect have been here for several days and are the only multi day visitors. Most boats come and go in a day but we are enjoying the achorage.
If you are wondering about the pix it is of me modeling a unique leather mask for Mardi Gras. Each mask made in this small shop is formed from leather and is unique. We all had them on and were determined to buy until cooler heads prevailed and we left the shop. Mardi Gras, or Carnival as it is known here is apparently on a par with New Orleans or maybe Rio.
Five days of uninhibited celebration. Alas we will have sailed south by Mardi Gras
Those us you on the edge of your seats regarding the late night visits of Senor Pelican will be happy to learn that we went without a successful visit for the first time last night (no poop to clean up). I strung a cord with a half dozen flags to flap all night and prepared a section of line criss crossing the deck to further discourage. Along with the laundry up all day we looked like the Slavobian navy (Connie would not allow me to take a picture)
