Yelapa

Sunny and warm

Today we left the anchorage for a daysail to the small bay on the sound side of Banderas Bay called Yelapa. Denny and Becky came aboard Sound Effect and we weighed anchor at 9:30 and headed 15miles to Yelapa. I charged the batteries and made water on the way over as there was no wind.
This small bay is only accesible by water even though it is a short way to Puerto Vallarta. This small village is literally carved out of the steep hillside.
There is really no good anchorage but the locals have put out mooring balls for rent and that is what we did. Once arrived we took a panga to shore through huge surf for a lunch and walk to the waterfall. The village main road is only for foot traffic and the occasional ATV or horse. Up the stairs from the beach and a stroll up the village lane and we arrived at the waterfall. There we watched gringos dive into the shallow pool at the bottom of the waterfall. As this is the dry season the pool is not very deep but there is no shortage of stupid people.
Tomorrow we check out and do an overnight passage around the next big "cape" Cabo Corrientes then on to Chemala
