Wet Dinghy ride again
10 March 2011 | Bahia Santiago
another beautiful day
Last night we arrived in Bahia de Santiago which all of the people keeping up with Xplot already know. This is once again an anchorage lining a beautiful white sand beach with rows of houses and Palapa restaurants.
We listened last night to the surf crashing on the beach and knew that getting ashore would be a challenge.
We were armed with all of the pertinent local knowledge. Where to park your dinghy once you are ashore, where to walk and catch the bus, and which bus to take etc.
Getting ashore without getting wet is something that can't be told but rather learned for ones self. Guaging the sets of waves ,choosing the right wave, speed of approach, wheels down or wheels up, how to balance, and not get side ways and don't forget the kill switch has to be attached to your wrist to prevent disaster in the event you fail.
"Don't worry its easy" is my favorite bit of encouragement.
Denny and Becky went first (after yelling my favorite bit of encouragement).
We are still disecting exactly what happened but the picture attached is Becking showering in her clothes, so you figure out how well the dinghy landing went.
After showering in our clothes we rode the bus for half an hour to downtown Manzanillo for sight seeing. Then the higlight of the day was shopping at Walmart super store yeah chocolate chips and Campbells tomato soup.
Just another typical day in the life of a cruiser.
