Isla Medidor
15 August 2011
Saturday we moved about 12miles in wind and rain to Isla Medidor. The wind was 8-10 kts which is perfect but we were tracking two different squalls on the horizons. The one in front dissipated but the one behind even though downwind eventually engulfed us in rain. The visibility went to nothing so we dropped one sail to slow down as the destination island had disappeared into the rain.
It popped out at about a half mile and we motored into a private little estuary on a private island. This island is reported to be owned by an Italian millionaire and there is a beautiful house on the highest peak of the island. They must have used a helicopter during construction because it is a very high peak surrounded by dense jungle. We have been having trouble with the jib furler not wanting to turn. I traced it to a halyard that slips in the rope clutch, so I tensioned it and noted the slip. So I tensioned once again and put a "c" clamp on the line to keep it from slacking off ... so far so good until I can devise a more permanent solution.
We baked cookies and watched My fair lady on DVD while it rained. This was our last un watched movie that we brought along and I had resisted for a year but as they say "the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain"
