Kokomo arrives!
14 October 2011
Kokomo arrived Thursday after a four day transit of the canal. The picture shows her now safely in the marina with rented canal lines on the dock and black patches on the topsides where she was tied to the canal tugs. Kokomo attempted to transit with us last Monday but starter problems forced her to cancel.
This cost them $471 cancellation fee. Effecting repairs in one day which meant once again removing the Corian countertop in the galley, she was ready to go for Tuesday. On station as required this time the canal cancelled her!
She successfully crossed the Mira Flores locks to Gatun lake on Wednesday and spent the night there.
Thursday morning , up early she started the engine ,and filled the cabin with smoke from the recently repaired alternator. With visions of yet another cancellation fee, Denny disconnected the offending alternator, and continued on to complete the transit.
The alternator has been removed, and sent back to Panama City for more repair. When repaired it will somehow find its way back to this side and eventually catch up with Kokomo who will be in the San Blas
Sound Effect is doing small repairs while waiting for haulout on Monday. Meanwhile negotiations continue to get repair parts for the broken freezer and Connie prepares for the worst…. Life without meat or ice cubes.
