Guanaja
28 November 2011 | Guanaja
The crew of Sound Effect continues to wait in Guanaja of the Bay Island of Honduras. We are relaxing doing boat chores and taking exploration rides.
The snorkeling will have to wait as my mask was stolen a couple of weeks ago.
I have been using Connies cute little pink one in the mean time.
We arrived here in Guanaja Thursday one of the premier dive destinations in the Carribean, and you can not buy a mask here! I hope to be able to in Roatan.
In the mean time Denny from Kokomo gave me his cast off leaking one and I am attempting to repair with 4200 cement we shall see I am waiting for the full cure time on the material before I try it.
We went ashore to a wonderful beach side German restaurant and met the local expat crowd. There are four boats in this anchoroge, a Swiss catamaran, and two American single handlers who have been here 10 years!
Also met a man who first came here from the states in 1969! He is blind and deaf but his son brings him by the bar for his nightly beer.
Of course everyone travels by boat as there are no roads. When you are out on the water every type of water craft acting as the family sedan.
In fact as we were out an about yesterday there was a funeral with a converted fishing trawler bringing the mourners to the grave site.
We will most likely move on to Roatan at the end of the week and then most likely Rio Dulce. We are begining to sort through the cruisers advice we get as we move north and most move south. We are getting negative reports on Belize so if anyone wants to wade in with recent information feel free but we wont be able to read it until most likely Roatan when we may get WIFI
