West End construction

RAIN

The other day we played tourist and took a bus to the west end of the island known as West End. This is a tourist destination where the single road is restuarant or guest inn or dive shop or T shirt store. However they have decided to tear up the only street and put in sewer system and then repave.
There has not been a sewer system in the past and the powers that be have decided to modernize. However they are diggin in loose wet sand and it is heavy going plus they plan to then pave over the sand which means the road will last until a big storm surge and then be history. I felt sorry for the store owners as the road being closed means the tourists have to slug through the wet mud and sand to get to their establishment. Oh the pains of progress.
There are some boats anchored off the west End but we see no reason to move so we will stay put in French Harbor which is closer to grocery and Hardware stores.
For now we are hunkered down for day two of our second norther. Rain for over 24 hours so we are pretty much stuck aboard making brownies and playing cards, but at least I don't have to shovel snow!
