Today was the first sun we had seen in almost a week so laundry came first and then a walk into town and off the boat.
While walking in town along the roadside is a man selling videos in cases, which propted us to reflect on the the movie industry. In every country since Mexico there have been opportunities to buy boot legged movies at very low prices. These are often first run movies and in some cases movies that are still in release or about to be. We of course would never take part in this clearly ilegal activity so the picture is of a video that someone else purchased.
Naturally we would not want to cheat Hollywood out of its hard earned profits.
The fact that no regular citizens of these countries could afford to see a movie if it was first run in a theater should not be considered.
How do they get these movies. Some of them are actually the movies sent out to Academy members. You see every voting member of the Acadamey gets a gratis copy of each nominated movie. I know this because about every ten minutes during the movie it says just that and that it may not be reproduced. Oh and I know that from friends videos since I would never take part in this clearly ilegal activity of viewing boot leg movies. But it is interesting that a member of the academy is selling bootleg movies being actual members of the industry themselves
