Boat to Basics
03 June 2006 | Ala Wai Marina, Honolulu
Kelly and Robbie
It's a beautiful night on the boat floating next to Waikiki beach, and though Robbie and I have been here now with Mark and Deanna for 10 days it's still a little bit wild for me to be here. Who knew that we would be spending this time with them in Hawaii! Mark and Robbie also did a world class demonstration over two days on how to get pummeled properly. They're still discovering sand in places that they never thought it could be. But, the boat really does feel like another home. Deanna's the best boat chef ever. I'm so impressed with her organization and inventions. Robbie and I keep on losing our one container of yoghurt in the fridge. Tonight's also Mark and Deanna's last night on the boat so kind of special to be here for that. I've only had a glimpse of boat life in the past week and I can't say that I'm not looking forward to the air-conditioned hotel where there's a pool and jacuzzi. But it's been great. The feel of the ocean swell gently rocks us to sleep at night. The sun wakes us up. Pretty good. And the party last night on the 56 foot catamaran wasn't bad either. Of course, one of the highlights was the taster Mark gave us when he took us sailing for an afternoon. Wind, waves, uncertain stomach... We were happily dangling our legs off deck and got swamped by a wave. Mark kept us tacking every 15 minutes too, so we could really feel involved. Seriously though, it was fantastic to be out there... for the afternoon. As we were bumping along, I was thinking about their trip and the passages they've done. I have huge respect for Mark and Deanna. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have come through with the same kind of good nature and enthusiasm. Deanna - you're such a trooper! I am so glad to be here and to be able to share a little in the experience, enough to imagine the rest. I'm also looking forward to the adventures that I'm sure will be in their future. With dreams of catamarans, the South Pacific and more. Thanks, Mark and Dee!
