326 miles covered, 425 miles to go! And it's been a delightfully easy, comfortable and enjoyable voyage so far. Basically, we do four things on the boat - eat, sleep, read and stand watch in three hour shifts. We've fallen into our routines, and life on board is great!
Meals and snacks provide structure and entertainment to our day. At tea time this morning, I surprised the crew with freshly baked blueberry muffins. On day one, Bruce broke out the bag of O'Henry snacks and offered ithem to all. Tom made sure that everyone had their fair share of the one bag of Hawkins Cheesies - a snack Mark and I will have to live without for a long time!
Three of us are sleeping well and often, and Mark is relieved when he sleeps at all. The hum of the motor lulls me to sleep any time of day or night, and it's delicious to catnap for even a few minutes in the cockpit, with a light breeze on my face. When we're not napping or engaged in conversation, we're devouring books - there are three electronic readers and a couple paper books on the go at any time. I have my favorite reading spot in the cockpit and I have to make sure I beat Bruce to it!
Standing watch, even the night shifts, has been pretty slack as far as I can tell. We've seen a few fish boats, rubbery kelp, kite-like jellyfish and a variety of birds. And because we've been motoring, rather than hoisting and lowering sails, watches haven't been very physical at all. The "easy" part of Speakeasy is absolutely fine with me. It's lovely to be comfortable and in great company - with Tom, Bruce and Mark - at sea.
