It's almost midnight and we are just over half of the way from Mazatlan to Punta de Mita in Banderas Bay. Mazatlan is about 90 miles behind us, and we have 70 miles to go.
We left Mazatlan at dawn and headed out into a surprisingly rough sea, considering that there was really no wind at all. Large 7-8' swells were rolling in, almost breaking at the entrance of the channel. Neither of us were feeling that great, after losing our sea legs by spending the last six months ashore! Luckily, we were soon able to turn and run with the swells, making the ride much more comfortable.
Unfortunately, and as expected, the wind has been too light to sail. So, we have been motoring along at about 5.5 knots, our most economical speed using one engine at a time.
As I write this, we are leaving Isla Isabella to starboard. It's an amazing island containing a nature preserve with nesting sites full of tame Blue Footed Boobies, Frigate Birds, and Iguanas. We visited there at this time last year so check our photo album or blog for more info.
Time for me to get back on deck and do another look around for traffic. Dee is sleeping in the sling seat in the cockpit. I'll let her sleep for another hour or so. Then, it's her turn to stand watch for a while.
