Back to fire pit land

I think we have officially entered the “north” when it’s okay to start having fires in the fire pit and roast marshmallows.

More than half way...

We are tucked away in another FREE campground tonight in Colonial Beach, Virginia. This one is called Harbor View and tomorrow we will drive around to discover why. All we can see from here are trees. We will be here for two nights and then onto Pennsylvania. We have been completely apart from people now for 5 days. The parks are really good at doing all the registration, etc. over the phone and internet. Only 9 more to go.

Under the trees

We are in South Carolina in a campground canopied with huge trees. When we bought our trailer the dealer gave us a membership to Thousand Trails. We had no idea what it was and clearly weren't grateful enough at the time. Turns out this membership gives you access to various parks throughout the country [...]

Escaping Florida

We did it!!!! We escaped Florida. After a lovely visit with Thomas's family we have gone into self isolation for a two week trip from Florida to New Hampshire. We want to arrive ready to hug all the babies! We have plenty of food and plan to only stop for gas along the way.

Visiting Family

We made it to Merritt Island, Fl to visit with Thomas sisters and cousin last Saturday. I was bad because I never got the location posted. Now this morning we are heading out again and beginning the trek north. We have provisioned the trailer so we don't need to shop or stop for anything and we can begin to self isolate today. The northern states are requiring a quarantine for those coming from the south and we figure we can start on the drive up.

It is so great to get feedback that people are actually interested in this. Thanks Victor, Lara, Ina, and Ray.

This is Day Three at Allen Cay. We are parked here. Still hoping to get a fish... but.... Yesterday we got all our gear together, loaded in the dinghy and set off to find some coral heads. We found a good spot... lots of current so we splashed in to drift, towing the dinghy with it's anchor. It has been a long time since we have used this gear and/or done this procedure. Immediately, my snorkel started leaking, then my masked leaked and THEN just as Thomas spotted a fish and pulled back on the spear.... snap the elastic snapped. No fish that day.

We enjoyed a slow drift over the coral with me spitting salt water and emptying my mask periodically. Last evening Thomas repaired my snorkel and mask and his spear. Set for another day.

But last night at 2 AM a squall came through that was a serious test for our Rochna anchor. It blew gust from 30 to 40 knots for over an hour and a half. The current is strong in this anchorage and was contrary to the wind so we were broadside on occasion and healed way over. Of course we were up... and just in case... had the engine on. The wind howled, the boat rocked, we bit our nails... but the Rochna held. These are religious experiences and make one super faithful for gear like a good anchor. Buy Rochna stock.

After the wind settled, we came below and had peppermint tea and sugar cookies and soft music. That worked like a charm and we were back in bed by 4:30.

So today... was sleep late and nap. The fish will have to wait for tomorrow.
