Back to fire pit land

I think we have officially entered the “north” when it’s okay to start having fires in the fire pit and roast marshmallows.

More than half way...

We are tucked away in another FREE campground tonight in Colonial Beach, Virginia. This one is called Harbor View and tomorrow we will drive around to discover why. All we can see from here are trees. We will be here for two nights and then onto Pennsylvania. We have been completely apart from people now for 5 days. The parks are really good at doing all the registration, etc. over the phone and internet. Only 9 more to go.

Under the trees

We are in South Carolina in a campground canopied with huge trees. When we bought our trailer the dealer gave us a membership to Thousand Trails. We had no idea what it was and clearly weren't grateful enough at the time. Turns out this membership gives you access to various parks throughout the country [...]

Escaping Florida

We did it!!!! We escaped Florida. After a lovely visit with Thomas's family we have gone into self isolation for a two week trip from Florida to New Hampshire. We want to arrive ready to hug all the babies! We have plenty of food and plan to only stop for gas along the way.

Visiting Family

We made it to Merritt Island, Fl to visit with Thomas sisters and cousin last Saturday. I was bad because I never got the location posted. Now this morning we are heading out again and beginning the trek north. We have provisioned the trailer so we don't need to shop or stop for anything and we can begin to self isolate today. The northern states are requiring a quarantine for those coming from the south and we figure we can start on the drive up.

Okay!!! I know!!! we kind of left you hanging. Sorry. What happened... well simply put, we returned to land and got immediately overwhelmed with .... all the doing!

On the night of 6/24 we pulled into the very peaceful Pelican Bay at Cayo Costa. That was our first stop after leaving Rodrigues Key and it was a 30+ hour journey. Not counting our little respite in the middle of no where to take a dip. It was also our last night to enjoy the boat and one last evening swim. :-(

While we were in the Bahamas we did not see a single dolphin but as soon as we passed under the bridge at Long Key they were there to greet us and welcome us back. They are so magnificent and I missed them. That first night in Pelican Bay we were surrounded by them. Wonderful!

Have I mentioned that it was and is HOT!!! Recommendation, Don't do this journey in June. Be done by May. I have never produced so much sweat.... not fun.

On 6/25 we traveled the rest of the way to the Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage facility and on the morning of 6/26 we were hauled out and blocked on the hard. Oh by the way... now it is even hotter!!! That evening our good buddy, Manuel came and picked us up so we could go get our truck. 1st stop, Home Depot to buy an air conditioner for the back cabin.

Since that time it has just been a whirlwind, decommissioning the boat and prepping her for storage. Much has happened in the past week. Sails down, decks cleared, stuff moved to our storage locker, lines washed, laundry done, wind generator down from the mizzen mast, Eisen glass washed, polished and stowed, cushions washed and stowed, dive gear washed and stowed, and outboard to be serviced. These are not the fun days of sailing... but I guess everyone should know that there are days like this too. And oh yeah, it's hot.

The boat is pretty much secured. Today we brought the travel trailer and parked it beside the boat. Tomorrow we will start to transfer the necessities. I am in a big hurry. The travel trailer is AIR CONDITIONED!
