It is getting very serious around here and all the local radio stations are making weather alert announcements constantly. We have taken down all our tarps (we had 3 up for shade) and brought everything that we had sitting under the tarps down into the v-berth and salon area. Our living space is down to a very small area in the salon but we have complete access to our stateroom and head. We have stocked up on canned food and filled every empty water bottle we have, just in case the city turns the water off prior to the big storm hitting. We are ready to hunker down for the next 6 days or more, if necessary.
Here's the situation. We still have 2 storms. The first storm, which should hit us any time now, is a smaller tropical disturbance, which will bring us lots of rain and cause flash flooding in some areas. The second storm, which is predicted to hit Saturday, is much bigger, much more defined, will bring even more rain, cause more flash floods, have heavy sustained winds, and has a very strong possibility to form into a cyclone. To us, it already looks like a cyclone, but hey, we aren't the weather gods.
The boat yard guys are currently attaching a bunch of chains to our foot rail and then staking the chains into the ground. That way, when both storms hits, Tanga stays attached to the ground and doesn't become a 15 ton plane!
Here is the most current weather picture of tropical disturbance #1, for tonight around 7pm.
Here is the bigger 2nd tropical disturbance (possible cyclone) that is scheduled to have a direct hit on Fiji for Saturday. The weather picture is what the weather gods predict it will look like on Sunday.
Please do keep in mind, that there is a strong possibility that we will lose our internet service and will not be able to let our families and friends know that we are okay. Please be patient with us, just in case we are silent for a week or more.
