Video from Cooks Bay, Moorea, Society Island

14 December 2012 | Whangarei, New Zealand

Here's another video we uploaded today. This was filmed this past August, in Cooks Bay, on the island of Moorea, in Polynesia. This is another one of our favorite anchorages. The views were spectular and the water in the bay was perfectly calm. There was a great grocery store, restuarants, and an excellent brick oven pizza place all very close by.

Video from Daniels Bay, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Island

10 December 2012 | Whangarei, New Zealand

This video was made while we were at anchor in Daniels Bay, on the island of Nuku Hiva, in the Marquesas Islands. This is one of the most beautiful anchorages we have stayed at. We enjoyed a wonderful hike to a secluded waterfall, breakfast and dinner with a local family who also gave us a bundle of fresh fruit, a white sand beach we enjoyed walking along and had campfires at night. Daniels Bay is a perfect island retreat.

Au revoir Polynesia

02 September 2012 | Bora Bora, Society Islands
It's been an amazing 3 months of cruising around one the worlds most beautiful island chains, but the time has come for us to leave. We are departing today, for a 14+ day voyage to Tonga, about 1300 miles away, due west. Right now, we are side tied to the public dock, waiting for the rain to stop so we can make some jerry jug runs of fuel and a quick provisioning trip. After that, we will motor out of the pass and we will be on our way.

We hope to update the website with some posts while we are sailing, but no promises as the satellite phone doesn't work well in clouds and it looks like the voyage may be messy. Tanga out!

I should know better

31 August 2012 | Still Bora Bora
Early on we learned never to say out loud, and especially on the blog what our planned date for departure was becuase mother nature watches these things and she can be quite a ..... While typing the last post, Monica warned me not to say when we were leaving becuase of the above reason. My response was to scoff and make some negative comment about the female species and my superior intelect. Well again its been proven that I have the brain of a pea and that women are far smarter.

Suffice it to say we are still here, and becuase of a forming, very nasty looking frontal system that is currently coming east from Fiji, we may be stuck here until early to mid next week. Time to get caught up on chores while I eat my crow for dinner. FYI, don't let anyone know since we already checked out of the country!

Next stop...

29 August 2012 | Bora Bora
We cleared out of Bora Bora today and should leave during the next favorable weather window tomorrow or the day after. We have loved our time in these islands and both feel it was all to brief, but we'll be back at some point in the future. I'm still working on the Mrs for a second lap around but not sure that will happen.

After clearing out today we stopped in at Ricks (Bloody Marys) for a final lunch and he gave us a pile of paperbacks to read after he heard we were low on our reading material.

Future cruisers should consider staying at their mooring balls. Yes the food can be pricey, but they make no demands that you spend your days there, in fact on our first day they said we could stay for two weeks and they wouldn't care, and hoped they could get us anything we needed including all the water, ice and trash we could use. The moorings are protected from the winds and the field is flat calm when BBYC and the other one (forget the name but its the only other one) are bouncing in wind waves. We also love that a dingy ride from here gets you to all parts of interest on the island; within half an hour ride, we could be in downtown, we fed rays, sharks, swam the coral gardens, and could have swam the mantas. Do give this mooring (under 50 tons) a consideration.

We are heading to Tonga but weather permitting we may make stops on the way at Palmerston or/and Nuie or/and Suwarrow. If we have no stops it should take around two weeks.
