Timothy Bittel | Stable late summer conditions
My second 2021 Mediterranean Trip has been completed. We lost a crew prior to leaving Mahon and therefore double handed to Gibraltar. Basically favorable conditions for this leg allowed mostly downwind sailing. Lots of traffic approaching Gibraltar.
I was able to find Andre, crew from July trip and he joined vessel in Gibraltar.
Tarifa traffic provided Orca updates and transit of the Straits was uneventful.
Once we turned the corner and started heading down the African coast traffic thinned out. Having a very stable forecast we flew an Asymmetrical Parasail for 40 hours. Not my usual style-- but reasonable decision based on forecast, full moon and clear skies. Sail was rated to 25 true and never saw more than 20.
Sail was 'new out of box' . We didn't have all necessary blocks - but jury rigged a good ride.
The trip helped complete owner's certification and mileage for Swiss Captain's license.
